Prior to his current position of President’s Representative on special assignments to which he was appointed in July 2023, Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov served as Assistant to the First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva from 2017 to 2023.
A career diplomat, Elchin Amirbayov joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan in 1991. After holding several positions in the central administration of the Ministry and long-term diplomatic postings in New York (UN) and Brussels (NATO), he served as Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation (2005-2009), the French Republic (2010-2017) and the Holy See (2005-2017). He also was Azerbaijan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva (2004-2009).
Since 2004 Elchin Amirbayov holds the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
