Prior to his current position, Mr. Elshad Nassirov worked in the USSR embassy in Afghanistan and India. Additionally, he has a very valuable work experience in the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences, as well as in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR.  Once Azerbaijan gained its independence, Mr. Nassirov started his service in the Permanent Representative Office of Azerbaijan in the UN (1992-1995). From 1995 till 1997, he served as Chief of Division in the administration of  Azerbaijan MFA

Mr. Nassirov worked as a Chief of the Foreign Economic Operations Department (1997-2003) and Chief of the Marketing and Operations Department of SOCAR (2003-2005). He was awarded the Order of Glory by the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev in 2010.
