Advanced Foreign Service Program for Foreign Diplomats kicks off in Baku
Foreign diplomats from 22 different countries (Argentina, Cambodia, Cuba, Ethiopia, Georgia, Ghana, Greece, Guyana, India, Italy, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Malta, Montenegro, Niger, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Sierra Leone, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Turkmenistan) take part in a program to improve human capital and strengthen international cooperation. The two-week program will end on June 24.
At the opening ceremony of the program, Vice Rector of ADA University and Director of the Institute for Development and Diplomacy, Dr. Fariz Ismailzade, expressed confidence that foreign diplomats will gain a greater understanding of the South Caucasus and Caspian region through the program.
Elmaddin Mehdiyev, the Director of AIDA, welcomed the participants on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and spoke about the contribution of the program to international cooperation and Azerbaijan's success as a new donor country in the field of international assistance.
Aygun Hajiyeva, Advisor to the Vice Rector for Government, External, and Student Affairs at ADA University and Deputy Director of the Institute for Development and Diplomacy (IDD) emphasized that the topics covered in the program will help participants learn more about Azerbaijan's history, culture, foreign policy, and public administration. A. Hajiyeva provided extensive information regarding the work of ADA University and Institute for Development and Diplomacy.
Ambassador of Greece Christos Kapodistrias, Ambassador of Argentina Mrs. Mariangeles Bellushi and Ambassador of Cuba Carlos Valdes Concepcion participated in the opening ceremony. The Ambassadors expressed their gratitude for the organization, and emphasized on the benefits of the program for the diplomats.
The diplomats were given presentations on international politics, effective diplomatic activity, the development of professional skills and abilities, the foreign policy of Azerbaijan, priorities and successes, energy diplomacy, and Azerbanian language and culture by professors and teachers from ADA University, staff members from the Institute for Development and Diplomacy, as well as invited guest speakers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, and other state institutions.
As a part of the program, participants will also attend orientation sessions in a number of state entities as well as tour to historical and cultural sites.
It should be mentioned that the sixth program organized this year has been running since 2018. In previous years, 74 diplomats from 46 different countries participated in the program.
