Water Envoy for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Ms. Meike van Ginneken, Hosted by IDD
We hosted the Water Envoy for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Ms. Meike van Ginneken, during her visit to Azerbaijan to discuss the water and adaptation agenda at COP29.
Led by Director for Policy Research, Analysis & Publications, Mr. Damjan Krnjević Mišković, we organized a session at ADA University. During the session, the Dutch Water Envoy mentioned that the Netherlands will continue to highlight the urgency of climate adaptation and promote an integral and inclusive adaptation approach that places water and spatial planning at the heart of COP29.
The country will also encourage follow-up of existing initiatives, such as the Water Action Agenda commitments made at the UN 2023 Water Conference and highlighted at the COP28 and highlight outcomes of the Global Commission on the Economics of Water – report will be launched in the fall of 2024.
“In order to achieve water and climate resilience, we need to stimulate knowledge development and capacity building, where knowledge institutions, universities, think tanks play a key role. Today, we are gathering at ADA University not only to share information on the water action, but also highlight an utmost importance of academia in informing our priorities and measuring progress”, said Ms. Meike van Ginneken,
