Lecture by Sylvie Motard, Acting Director of UNEP’s Europe Office, at ADA University
On March 15, 2024, ADA University had the honor of hosting Sylvie Motard, the Acting Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Europe Office, for a lecture as part of the Global Perspectives Lecture Series (GPLS). The event focused on the pivotal role of multilateralism in achieving climate resilience and sustainability, offering valuable insights into global environmental strategies and collaborative efforts.
With over 25 years of experience in environmental and sustainable development within the United Nations system and European organizations, Ms. Motard specializes in environmental and European law and economy. Her extensive career includes significant roles at the European Commission and the European Parliament, providing her with profound knowledge of EU decision-making processes. Since joining UNEP, she has been instrumental in managing relations with Western European countries and coordinating resource mobilization initiatives in Europe.
During her lecture, Ms. Motard emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation in addressing the global climate crisis. She highlighted the necessity for collective action and international partnerships to build climate resilience and achieve sustainable development goals. Drawing from her extensive experience, she discussed the critical role of multilateral institutions, such as the United Nations, and international agreements like the Paris Agreement, in coordinating global climate efforts and ensuring equitable participation from all countries.
