Secretary General of OPEC delivered a lecture within GPLS
In his first trip to Azerbaijan under the authority of the OPEC, Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais gave a lecture at ADA University titled "OPEC, OPEC+, and a transitioning world.”
Participants included specialists, researchers, and students from a wide range of academic institutions.
During the lecture, General Secretary Al Ghais discussed the significant role that OPEC and OPEC+ countries play in the dynamically evolving global energy system. He emphasized the significance of decreasing emissions and providing for the world's energy needs, as well as enhancing energy security and attaining decarbonization targets.
Al Ghais addressed the role of youth in effectively navigating the new energy paradigm, stating that despite the huge rise in global energy consumption, the problem of energy shortage remains important. "We need to convey to the public the energy industry's contributions to our world and its importance in shaping our future," he added.
The lecture emphasized the benefits of promoting ties between OPEC+ countries and Azerbaijan, highlighted Azerbaijan's contributions to the energy industry, and underlined the successes of this cooperation. The lecture continued with a Q/A session and further discussion.
It should be noted that the Global Perspectives Lecture Series is held on an ongoing basis by the Institute for Development and Diplomacy to encourage knowledge exchange with worldwide professionals.
