
The 1st Azerbaijan-UK Policy Dialogue successfully concluded
On September 26, the 1st Azerbaijan-UK Policy Dialogue, organized by the Institute for Development and Diplomacy (IDD) of ADA University in partnership with the British Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan and bp, successfully concluded.
The two-day program was attended by more than 50 experts, including members of parliament, senior government officials, researchers from universities and think tanks, media representatives, and independent experts.
On the first day of the program, September 25, the first panel dedicated to the topic “Azerbaijan-UK Bilateral Relations and Strategic Partnership in a Changing Global Order” was attended by Fariz Ismailzade, Vice-Rector of ADA University and Member of Parliament, Lord Aamer Sarfraz, Member of the House of Lords of the British Parliament, Mr. David Duguid, Former MP of UK Parliament, and then Mr. Samad Seyidov and Ms. Sevinj Fataliyeva, Members of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Moderated by Prof. Damjan Krnjevic, IDD Director for Policy Research and Publications, in the second panel of the day, Rehman Chishti, Former MP of UK Parliament and Former Foreign Office Minister, Dr. Matthew Offord, Former MP of UK Parliament and Independent observer, Dr. Farid Shafiyev, Ambassador and Chairman of the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), and Mr. Murad Muradov, Co-founder and Deputy Director of theTopchubashov Center, discussed the topic of “Regional security, cooperation and foreign policy priorities in the South Caucasus”.
On the second day of the program, on September 26, there were two panel discussions titled “Energy Cooperation and Economic Diversification: The United Kingdom-Azerbaijan Investment Partnership” and “Public Diplomacy through Education, Science and Innovation: Building Connections for Global Cooperation”. Moderated by Mr. John Roberts, Energy Security Specialist of Methinks Ltd., in the first discussion Mr.Orkhan Zeynalov, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Andrew Mennear, Senior Director of theGovernment Affairs at bp, Mr. Michael Ritchie, Editor of theEnergy Intelligence, and Ms. Zibar Huseynova, Executive Director of the British Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan, are the panelists.
Following that, the second panel of the day, moderated by Ms. Parvina Huseynova, Founder of the Realstrategik Consultancy, Panelists are Mr. Councilor Kasim Ali, the Leader of the Labor Group on the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council, Ms. Malini Mehra, CEO of the Globe Legislators and Curator of the Baku Climate Action Week, Ms. Ulkar Sattarova, Director of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education, and Ms. Nargiz Hajiyeva, Country Director of the British Council Azerbaijan.
During the panel discussions, the participants noted the importance of developing a strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom, strengthening bilateral relations, and exploring new cooperation opportunities.
