We hosted a roundtable, "The role of women in food security”
IDD continues its tradition of bringing experts and interested parties together and providing a platform to discuss topical issues.
We organised a roundtable discussion dedicated to the topic of "The role of women in food security," led by FAO expert Ms. Tarana Jafarova.
Talking about women's representation in the agricultural field, our expert touched upon the role of female farmers in food security in Azerbaijan and the challenges that they face during the production process.
This roundtable was a lively discussion of female farmers and participants from the UNDP, Azerconnect, the Azerbaijan Women Entrepreneurs Association, and other organisations.
The representatives from UNFAO provided recommendations based on best practices and lessons learned.
The participants summarised their expectations and suggestions about the importance of female representation in food security by quoting the FAO’s report from previous years: “If women in rural areas had the same access to productive activities as men, agricultural and farming production would increase, and we could feed approximately 150 million more people."
